During his education Ir Grootveld was a trainee designer at the Turku city planning department in Finland. After completing his education, Ir Grootveld worked as draftsman and designer for many large and small architect's offices and building contractors in The Hague and Rotterdam, Netherlands. Most of the work consisted of school buildings, (semi) detached houses, and small office- and industrial buildings.
As an employee of the former office "Kruisheer Hallink Arends architects" in Rotterdam he designed medical buildings. One of these is the Oosterschelde hospital in Goes, further an office block including a city policlinic at the Amersfoort town centre. He was also involved in a laboratory building design at the Akzo Coatings (Sikkens) plant in Sassenheim.

Since 1985 Ir Grootveld has his own architect's and engineering office. First under the name of Grootveld Breddels Architekten. He specialised in designing petrol stations, carwash and car service buildings.
Ir Grootveld developped a wide experience in this discipline, both for underground and above-ground infrastructure. Many oil-companies, like Fina Nederland, Avia Nederland Coöperatie, Kuwait Petroleum Nederland and De Haan Minerale Oliën understood the added value of professional support, some of them became regular customers.
Also many uncommitted entrepreneurs find their way to Ir Grootveld. As there are Berkman in Barendrecht, Brouwer in Loosdrecht, Olijve in Assen, Van Aalst in Benthuizen, HCC in Drachten, Lvov Petroleum at Lvov Ukraina and many others. Since 1-1-1999 the buro's name changed to "Ir Grootveld Architekt + Adviseur". It's more and more involved in the smaller oil business planning problems. Beside that there's a growing market in car- and truckwash.

Ir Grootveld works from him Rotterdam based office. He is married and has two sons, both physically handicapped.
For this reason he got a second specialisation beside automotive architecture. Accessibility consulting in building for handicapped persons. From his own experience he knows all the way in Dutch regulations. Beside that he advises families in private home adaptions needed for caring handicapped children.

Ir Grootveld is also involved in "usual" designing. He has a more than twenty years experience in designing practical and esthetic solutions, especially in complex situations.
